Fiji, a Pacific island nation, has suffered a number of military coups in recent years that have stunted its crucial tourism industry and the economy more generally. A developing country, Fiji relies heavily on its agriculture, clothing, and fishing industries for employment. Tourism expanded rapidly for two decades and is still a major source of foreign exchange earnings. The government has tried to diversify the economy and make Fiji an easier place to do business, but with little success so far.
